Volunteering at AYA has a lasting impact on volunteers as well as on the students
with whom they are working. Volunteers are exposed to children from various cultural
and/or socio-economic backgrounds. The result is a broader understanding and new
respect for the deserving children of our inner city.
With Children During School Day

One-to-one individual student extra help tutoring (8am-3pm)
-
Room Parent: monthly birthdays, holiday parties, teacher’s help (8am-3pm)

Field trips: drivers and chaperones (various times)
With Children After School
-
Pre-K through 1st grade play, minimal homework (3pm-5pm)

Sports Program: coaching and refs needed (weekend only)
-
Those with special interests might form afternoon clubs (e.g. cooking, chess, sports)
Facilities/Organizational Opportunities

Food Bank: pick up food/deliver to school (2x per month)

Maintenance/Repairs: various (1-2x per month and during the summer)

Reception Desk: daily assistance needed (2pm-5pm)

Teacher Aid: filing, admin work, room needs, etc. (various)

Material Donations: pick up and distribution (various)
