Class of 2006, Media Relations Coordinator, MSNBC
TELL US THE STORY OF HOW YOU GOT TO AYA?
My cousin Sythea Lester ‘05 was already attending AYA when we heard of it. Once I arrived at AYA, the small class sizes and close-knit nature was a definite bonus.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT AT AYA?
There’s no one definitive moment but there are many memories of leadership opportunities that were placed in the hands of the students that I’ll always remember fondly. Whether it was leading a chapel service, interviewing prospective teachers, or directing a philanthropic endeavor; students of all ages were encouraged to embrace stewardship and take an active approach to their AYA experience.
WHAT IS DRIVING YOU IN YOUR CAREER NOW?
I initially worked as a page on the Stephen Colbert show in New York and that is part of what helped me land my current role with MSNBC. I work to create opportunities for news personalities in the broader entertainment space. My AYA experience has enabled me to frame my storytelling to accurately reflect peoples attributes and ideas without alienating anyone.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER CURRENT AYA STUDENTS AND FAMILIES?
Network, network, network! Life isn’t always
