Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering at AYA has a lasting impact on volunteers as well as on the students with whom they are working. Volunteers are exposed to children from various cultural and/or socio-economic backgrounds. The result is a broader understanding and new respect for the deserving children of our inner city.
With Children During School Day
- Mentor a Student (visit campus at least 1x per month)
- Individual Tutoring (8am-3pm)
- Room Parent: monthly birthdays, holiday parties, teacher’s help, etc. (8am-3pm)
- Field trips: drivers and chaperones (various times)
With Children After School
- Mentor a Student (visit campus at least 1x per month)
- Playground Assistance (3pm-5pm)
- Individual Tutoring (3pm-5pm)
- Sports Program: coaching and refs needed (weekend only)
- Those with special interests might form afternoon clubs (e.g. cooking, chess, sports)
Facilities/Organizational Opportunities
- Maintenance/Repairs: various (1-2x per month and during the summer)
- Reception Desk: daily assistance needed (2pm-5pm)
- Teacher Aid: filing, admin work, room needs, etc. (various)
- Material Donations: pick up and distribution (various)
